Rocky Mountain National Park's Alpine Visitor Center is located at 11,796 feet (3,595 m) above sea level at Fall River Pass, one mile west of the highest point on Trail Ridge Road and four miles east of the Continental Divide at Milner Pass in the U.S. state of Colorado. It is the highest visitor center in the National Park System.Ask Inspirock to suggest an itinerary and make planning a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park fast, fun, and easy.
The Alpine Visitor Center includes restrooms, exhibits on the alpine tundra ecosystem, and a gift shop operated by the park's non-profit partner organization, the Rocky Mountain Conservancy. The visitor center opens around Memorial Day and closes around mid-October due to snow and the extreme winter environment. In mid-summer, the visitor center is also usually accessible by Old Fall River Road, a 9-mile dirt road open to one-way, uphill vehicle traffic.
Views from the Alpine Visitor Center include the Mummy Range, the Fall River Valley, and Trail Ridge to the east and the Never Summer and Medicine Bow ranges to the west and north. Hiking opportunities include the 1/4-mile round-trip Alpine Ridge Trail, commonly referred to as "Huffer's Hill," and the 8-mile round-trip Ute Trail to Milner Pass. Park Rangers provide park orientation and interpretive programs on the alpine tundra.
Additional gift and food services at Fall River Pass are provided at the concession-operated "Trail Ridge Store and Cafe."

Alpine Visitor Center reviews
COVID makes everything weird! We were able to wait in line to get inside the VC and use the water bottle fillers. Checked out the great views, too. No picnic facilities here. more »
You will likely stop here to go to the bathroom. The bathrooms are on the left side of the parking lot (vault style bathrooms). The visitors' center has a specified number of people allowed in at a... more »
A lovely place atop the mountains that has good parking place, a cafe, restrooms and unbeatable scenic views. The place was crowded yet the surroundings were enchanting. Snows had not yet melted and made the place look all the more beautiful. The cafe, though slightly costly was well equipped. Be prepared to find some items on the menu run out when crowds are heavy. There is plenty of space for children to run around. However, care needs to be taken to prevent them running towards the parking lot where they can pose problems to cars moving in and out. Also, some places along the periphery are risky. So keep an eye on their movements. There is good place to move around. Trails lead you to yet higher and better spots with no crowds.
This visitor center is the situated at the highest altitude on the entire United States and is one of the most beautiful spots I've visited. The cafeteria has a good variety of snacks to choose from.
