Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park presents an ideal setting for recreation in the mountain range for which the park is named. About 480 km (300 mi) of hiking trails crisscross the park, with some bringing visitors to summits surpassing 4,250 m (14,000 ft) in altitude. At 4,346 m (14,259 feet), Long's Peak dominates many views, and hikers opt for trails that arrive at Bear Lake, which sits beneath the high mountains of the Continental Divide. Trail Ridge Road brings visitors above 3,650 m (12,000 ft) in their cars during summer, but the road remains closed in winter. Park roads provide scenic biking, while rivers and streams draw anglers to their trout-stocked waters. A herd of 600 to 800 elk call the park home during winter, and about 350 bighorn sheep and numerous moose and mule deer live there throughout the year. The park's location, about a 90-minute drive from Denver, makes the wildlife and wild terrain of this park easily accessible. Rocky Mountain National Park is in Colorado.
